The Melvindale Girls Varsity Softball team made history this weekend, capturing the program’s first district championship in more than 10 years with a pair of memorable victories in district tournament play. The Lady Cards’ championship run was highlighted by an incredible comeback in the district semifinal against Edsel Ford. Trailing by five runs, Melvindale refused to quit, rallying late before earning a dramatic walk-off victory in the bottom of the seventh inning to advance to the district final. Riding that momentum into the championship game, the Lady Cards delivered another strong performance, defeating Dearborn 8-4 to secure the district title. The championship is a significant achievement for a program that has steadily worked toward returning to the top of district competition. Players showed resilience, determination, and composure throughout the tournament, overcoming adversity and delivering when the stakes were highest. The title also reflects the leadership of Coach Don Wolan and Coach Mike Gable, whose guidance helped the team navigate a historic season and bring a district championship back to Melvindale. For the players, coaches, families, and supporters, the championship marks a milestone moment and one of the most memorable accomplishments in recent school history. After more than a decade of waiting, the Lady Cards are once again district champions. **Final Scores** * District Semifinal: Melvindale def.
